Published Sun 10 Mar 2019
Waverley and Dandenong continued their era of dominance to claim iconic victories in the Cup competitions, reigning supreme at Mill Park on their way to back-to-back state titles.
It was the Grand Final we were all expecting in the Women’s Cup. Dandenong and Waverley were the two best sides all weekend and left nothing on the park in the competition’s decider.
Dandenong finished round 9 with all the momentum defeating Casey 7-0, while Waverley lost their final regular match-up against Knox 3-0.
In calm weather conditions, the Dandenong outfit fought hard all match, however, it was Waverley powering home at the finish to win 5 – 2 and earn back-to-back state championship crowns.
The Men’s Cup Grand Final was another hotly contested affair between Dandenong and Albury Wodonga.
It was an all-round team effort from Dandenong, who secured a memorable win to close out the championships 7 – 3 over a valiant Albury Wodonga.
In the Women’s Plate Grand Final, a Sunshine team produced their best softball at the tournament’s climax and emerged as victors against a brave Keilor Park 10 – 0.
Whilst in the Men’s Plate Grand Final, GEMSA proved too strong against Casey prevailing 10 – 0.
