A walk-off home run by Henry Mullan has seen the Eastern Bucks claim the 2021/22 SV State League Men’s Fastpitch Championship.

The game had all the drama expected of a grand final.

Metrans led 2-1 through the first two innings with some quality hitting from the top of their order. Ricky Wheeler, Michael Dyson and Paul Maisey all proved incredibly difficult to get out on the night.

The Bucks hit their stride in the third and fourth innings, with Homeruns to Aaron Hare and Jayden Bamford helping the Bucks to reclaim the lead, 6 runs to 3.

Luke Russell came in to relieve Mark Rigg for Metrans, and the 17-year-old had the Bucks tied down, with Metrans fighting back to level the scores 7-7 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning.

A walk to Nick Cassar put a runner on base before Mullan ended the game with a home run over left field.

The result capped off a huge night and dominant season for the Eastern Bucks. Pitcher Joel Goodall swept all before him in the league awards, claiming the Season MVP, Players Player, and Batting Award, while also being named to the All-Star Team.

No fewer than four Bucks made it to the All-Star team, more than any other team, and the Bucks were dominant throughout the season, claiming the minor premiership with a 17-2 record, and a +84 point differential.

The Bucks only two losses came in a round 5 double header against the team they ultimately faced off in the final, Metrans.
