Grand Final Season Continues at Geelong and Casey
Published Tue 05 Apr 2022
The conclusion of the domestic competition season continued this week, with Geelong and Casey Softball Associations both holding Grand Final events.
Last Wednesday night, the Surf Coast Sharks and Geelong Cougars met in the Geelong women’s grand final, with the Cougars coming out on top 8 to 1 after 6 innings, in a highly competitive contest despite the final score line.
The Cougars success this season has been built on defence, with the team recording the least runs scored against in the competition.
The Sharks are a first season club, who improved greatly as the season progressed, finishing third on the ladder, but earned their way into the grand final with a win over second-placed Birralee White the previous week.
The Geelong women's comp is played on a Wednesday night, and the association is always happy to have new teams and players join.
Casey Softball Association also enjoyed a gala day of finals on the weekend.
In the social women’s competition, Berwick Geronimo took on Narre Warren Penguins in a high scoring encounter.
The Penguins poured on 22 runs in the first two innings, before Geronimo began chipping away at the lead, ultimately tying scores up at 22-22 and sending the game into a tie-breaker.
After shutting the Penguins out, Ali Smith scored Shelley Ryder from second base, with Geronimo winning a thriller 23-22
Penguins Jess George was awarded player of the Grand Final.
