Letter from the President – October 26

Published Tue 26 Oct 2021

Fellow softballers.

I am sure you are all as excited as I am to see the end of restrictions approaching and our chance to get out on the diamond getting closer.  It will only be a few weeks now and we will be able to brush off the cobwebs and face that first pitch.

With training now allowed under state regulations, it is important that we all follow the rules so we can keep each other safe and prepare for the season to start in earnest.

The team at Softball Victoria have been working with state government to try and map our way back to our sport.  I’m sure you have seen in other parts of the move out of lockdown, the devil is always in the detail.  If it seems like you are not getting information, then it is because the information is not available.  If it seems like the information is changing, it is because the information we are receiving is changing.  This is nobody’s fault; it is because we are all in uncharted waters and we are adapting as we go.

Each sport is doing the same, if you hear a decision from one sport has been made, it may be that they have different information or have made different assumptions.  Neither is right or wrong, just different.

So, what can we do from here?

  • Support your committees
    • The committee of your club and association have worked long and hard with little information to try and prepare for the season.  They need lots of thanks and help, I know I am incredibly impressed by the strength and resilience they have shown through the last two years.
  • Support your teammates and officials
    • Everyone will have different priorities as we come back to competition.  Be there for them.
    • Registrations are open, now is the time to sign up.
  • Bring a friend
    • Now, more than ever, we need to share the joy and excitement of our great game.  Let’s get more people on the park.

I can’t wait to walk onto the diamond and I look forward to seeing many of you there.  We are close to returning, let’s work together to make it a great season.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your associations, to the participation managers or contact me.  We may not have the answers but we are there to help.

See you soon on the diamond,

Anthony Bradstreet
