Lorraine Davies Steps Down from Scoring Committee After 34 Years
Published Wed 30 Mar 2022
Following her recent decision not to renominate, the Softball Victoria (SV) Scoring Committee would like to acknowledge the huge contribution made by Lorraine Davies of Geelong Softball Association to the scoring community over the past 34 years.
Lorraine was one of the foundation members of the SV Scoring Committee when it formed in 1988, and held the position of Director of Scoring/Chairperson for 20 years from 1998-2018.
During this time, Lorraine trained grassroots scorers from across the state, delivering lectures and training sessions, and overseeing assessments in line with the National program.
Lorraine has also been involved at State and National level, serving as a team statistician for the U16 Victorian girls for 13 years, and as an official Statistician at numerous State and National tournaments.
Lorraine’s involvement in softball began in 1971, and she has been a tireless volunteer for her local club, Association, and State over that time, which included 13 years on the SV Board.
Her dedication and service has been recognised with Life Memberships at the Birralee Softball Club (1983), Geelong Softball Association (1983), and Softball Victoria (1999).
In 2000, she was awarded an Australian Sports medal, and the State body recognised Lorraine's dedication and service to scoring by renaming the Statistician of the Year Award in her honour in 2014. She subsequently won the Lorraine Davies Victorian Statistician of the Year award in 2019.
We thank Lorraine for her enormous and unmatched contribution, and trust we will still see her on the sidelines with coloured pens in hand at many future tournaments.
