Just like in round eight, the Metrans would waste little time getting on the scoreboard, taking a one run lead at the bottom of the first inning.
Opening the batting, Joel Southam would be the first to run home, and the side was unlucky not to add another run moments later. Glenn Rigg’s long shot looked to have cleared the cones for a home run, but the umpire deemed he was caught before the boundary.
Only one run down at the top of the second, the Hawks levelled the scores through George Ironside who ran home, running closely behind him was Bronson Kotuhi, but he was tagged out on the way.
The Metrans then began to put the foot down in the next two innings, keeping the Hawks scoreless and adding runs of their own, getting out to a 7-1 lead.
In the sixth inning with the game one locked in as a win, youngster Luke Russell looked to have put some icing on the cake for the Metrans with a home run, but once again umpiring called the ball to not have beaten the boundary. But it wouldn’t cost the home side who ran out convincing winners 9-3.
After losing the first game by six runs, things didn’t get any better for the Hawks in the second game.
Once again, the Metrans would waste little time hitting the scoreboard. Stretching out the lead, the game was firmly in the Metrans’ hands by the halfway point.
The Metrans eventually ran away victors by 11 runs, 13-2 in the second game.
