GAME 1 – BLACK STORM V PURPLE HAZE
The Purple Haze put in an impressive display against the Black Storm to win 10-1 in the opening game of the night. The Haze put the runs on early, Sarah Beales’ gland slam home run aided the side to a five-run lead at the end of the first innings.
By the bottom of the third innings the Storm was left with a big mountain to climb, trailing by 10 runs and yet to score. They managed to get on the scoreboard late, before eventually falling to the Haze 10-1.
GAME 2 – BLACK STORM V TEAL TORNADOES
The Storm like last week were victorious over the young Teal Tornadoes outfit, cruising to a 14-7 win.
Still in search of their first victory of the season, the Tornadoes got off to a bright start. Kylie Steemers led the way with a grand slam as the side scored five runs in their opening inning. But the Storm would rally to level the scores at 5-5.
Keeping the Tornadoes scoreless in the second inning, the Storm would stretch out the margin to nine runs. Tania Puketapu’s grand slam gave the Storm a firm grip on the game.
The Tornadoes faced a big task in the final inning trailing by nine, and could only trim the margin by two runs.
GAME 3 TEAL TORNADOES V PURPLE HAZE
The Haze remain as the only undefeated team of the tournament after a strong 14-4 victory over the Tornadoes.
The Tornadoes were up for a challenge in the early going – having conceded just two runs at the top of the first – they’d respond with three of their own to lead at the end of the first.
Things came unstuck in the second innings with Kamar Hutchinson’s ground-rule double leading to two teammates running home and would mark the start of what would become a commanding 10 run lead.
Like last week, the Tornadoes would once again need 11 runs in bottom of the final inning to record an unbelievable victory. But it would be too much to peg back, as the Haze recorded another charging victory.
The next stop on the Peta Edebone Cup fixture is this Sunday morning at Casey.
