Softball Victoria (SV) wishes to advice of the re-scheduled dates and venues for the 2021 State Championships.

The revised dates and venues are as follows:

In difficult circumstances, SV and the Events Committee have worked vigorously to fixture the State Championships for 2021.

The decision to play the underage events outside of the summer season was based on the following points:

• The ever-changing COVID restrictions and plans for return to play have meant that early 2021 was difficult to plan for. Noting that a return to community sport did not occur without significant restriction until late 2020, a decision was made to provide more time for the pandemic to dissipate.

• State Championships are selection events for State teams, they are held in the lead up to trials, so when Underage Nationals were scheduled for April 2021, we considered that holding them later in the year in the lead up to State trials was appropriate.

• Summer competitions due to COVID-19 were not compromised/impacted by playing State Championships in season.

• Allows zone teams to train after grassroot competitions have completed so that they are not compromised/impacted.

• Feedback was that a weekend of play was preferred over two Sundays.

• Impact of and on other sports traditionally played in August –
• This was a consideration especially with the allocation of venues.
• At the time of fixturing the above dates, many sports fixtures were and still are unknown.
