Congratulations to Rohan Mullin who was formally inducted into the Softball Victoria Hall of Fame at Saturday’s AGM.

Rohan Mullin began his playing career at the Werribee Softball Association at a young age. The sport was a family affair for Rohan, with both his parents John and Wendy and sister Robyn heavily involved with the Glen Devon Softball Club.

Once he got his first taste of softball, there was no looking back. As a young softballer Rohan came to the attention of state selectors in 1989 when he was selected to represent Victoria in the inaugural U19 Men’s team in Sydney. He went on to wear the Victorian uniform a further 12 times in a career spanning 18 years.

In 1991 Rohan was a key player in Victoria winning the Nox Bailey Shield for the first time. Rohan had a stellar tournament and he influenced games with outstanding performances on the mound, winning the tournament Best Pitcher Award.

Rohan went on to debut in the Victorian Open Men’s team in 1993. In 1999 Rohan was part of the Open Men’s team to win the National Championship. This was the first time that the Victoria Open Men had tasted success and they followed this up by defending their title in 2000.

Rohan made his Australian debut in 1995 for the Open Men’s team touring New Zealand. In 1996 he was selected to represent Australia in the IX ISF Men’s World Championship in Michigan, USA. Rohan’s softball career took him around the world, playing in Japan, Europe, America and Canada. 

Whilst a presence on the diamond, Rohan was also a great team player. He always led from the front and contributed as much as possible when things weren’t going his way. He was a role model for younger pitchers and lead the way with his commitment to the team.

His undying passion for the sport has seen Rohan give back to younger generations, by holding coaching positions within Victorian teams, and working with junior pitchers to develop their skills and pass on his knowledge.

Rohan’s commitment throughout his long and decorated career has seen him excel on the national and international stage, but nothing held more significance for him than representing the Big V and doing his state proud.
