Swan Hill schoolkids travel night-and-day to get to School Softball Finals
Published Mon 28 Nov 2022
At today's School Sport Victoria Primary Softball State Finals there was a group of students unlike any other. This group of twenty students has pursued their softball dreams through floods and long distance, travelling over 350km to make it to the event.
Students from Swan Hill Primary School competed against five other schools, however their regional championship was flooded out, with no school able to make it. No obstacle would deter these kids.
Swan Hill Primary teacher Max Carroll was filled with pride, saying "These kids have never had an opportunity to come this far in the competition, and they've been training hard for the past four weeks in readiness for the event. Our school community thankfully subsidised the trip, allowing us to make the journey to be here. The kids have had a ball, making great friendships at the event, plus they got to have a couple of swims in the pool at the hotel - who wouldn't want that!"
Carroll also praised the School Sport Victoria Softball program, saying "We love the inclusiveness of the new rules. Softball's a great social game - it's a positive environment where everyone gets an opportunity. There's a good amount of tactics and the kids need to work as a team. We'd recommend it to any school that was looking at which sport they should bring in."
