Under 14 Nationals - Day 3 Recap

Published Sun 17 Apr 2022

Our first game of the day was always going to be tough against an extremely strong Queensland team, and they asserted themselves from the start, and it was evident early we were going to struggle.

The 20-0 score line was a big wake up call to our team, with only nine batters having one at bat, and the Queensland team batting through multiple times.

Results from other games meant our second game against the ACT was a do-or-die encounter. Both teams had an even pitching roster, leading to a seesawing affair, but eventually our bats proved too strong and we pulled away with a team boosting 8-5 win which set us for a big day tomorrow.

Despite finishing fifth after the Round games, we are in a good position to push deep into the finals.

Meanwhile, our girls unfortunately were unable to record a win from their three games on Day 3, but it certainly does not reflect on how well the girls have played.

The opening game was against an undefeated Queensland, who also sit atop the ladder. However, we battled bravely, and we are one of only two teams to score more than one run against them, with the final score 18-2.

The second game against the NSW Slammers was a cracking game, fought out right to the end with the Slammers holding on to 6-5.

Our final game of the day was our 3rd vs 6th final, and we again took on the Slammers, which reflected just how tight the ladder has been throughout the tournament.

We unfortunately again lost in another great game by a single run, 10-9, but our team played with incredible spirit, and we can be very proud of the way they never quit.

A win in our game on Day 4 gives us a chance to extend the tournament for one more game, before our 2022 campaign ends.

After spending so much time with these girls at training and at this tournament, there is no doubt they will fight both games out to the end.

Good luck to all the girls and officials on the final day, we are very proud of you all. Let’s go Vic!
